the horrors

Life gives me the horrors, sometimes, the way it clings to everything on this spiralling rock. A billion other universes beyond, and each of them silent, with nothing to hear, nobody to hear. Something went wrong here – but in the fuck-you-in-the-mind vastness of cosmic time, no biggie. Some stupendously unlikely collision between dead matter roaring through the void brought life into being, but it’s dying out now, a fading ripple, unnoticed by the empty space. it rushed from microbe to man, leaving dinosaurs and mammoths in the rocks and in the snow, til man grew exhausted and disoriented and lay down and died on a little dead planet, unseen, unheard.
