wind up nowhere

it’s so easy to wind up nowhere. Most of us do, Through every bedroom window lit at 2am is a body waiting to be taken away, a person being crushed by life, drowning in the air, another silent ending of a story that had no meaning, the dead puppy unwrapped on Christmas morning, things unravelling, truths being fled and truths catching you in their jaws. Lives of bemused futility, baffled heartbreak, patient queuing at the foot of the scaffold. We never dreamed it would end like this – but, hey ho, off we go.
